Grand Canyon University Lawsuit

Recently, Grand Canyon University has announced that a lawsuit has been filed against it, in response to a story that was printed in the Gainesville Sun newspaper. The suit names GCU as well as the paper’s owner, as defendants in the defamation case. This announcement comes after the university recently settled a harassment lawsuit brought against it by a former employee. In both instances, GCU has denied wrongdoing.

GCU was one of several colleges targeted in a defamation suit by the Gainesville Sun.

The newspaper’s articles have referred to students at GCU as “troubled” and inferring they are bad students. Other articles have implied that poor academic performance is the reason for the lawsuit. These statements are both false and libelous. In fact, according to the facts of the case, none of this was true.

GCU has filed a complaint against the newspaper and the writer who wrote the article.

According to statements made by a school spokesperson, this defamation case is part of a larger case concerning comments made on a website about the college and its sports teams. Those comments were brought to the attention of the school and administrators by a former employee. According to details of the lawsuit obtained by J. Stephen Lanning in his book, The Righteous Mind: What Every College Should Do, a former faculty member had written to a student complaining about the low graduation rates and the low success rate for many college athletes, and suggested that such statistics were due to the fact that many college students were taking improper supplements.

This is where the lawsuit gets interesting.

In a separate case unrelated to the one mentioned above, a grand canyon university lawsuit was brought against the same college, in an effort to recoup money that was supposed to be awarded to the school for providing educational services to their students. According to details of the lawsuit obtained by J. Stephen Lanning in his book, The Righteous Mind: What Every College Should Do, a former employee had written to the school complaining about the low graduation rates and the low success rate for many college athletes, and suggested that these statistics were due to the fact that too many athletes were taking improperly designed dietary supplements. The dietary supplement referred to was nutritional supplements.

How can colleges afford to award thousands of dollars in college scholarships?

Well, it appears that the schools are not doing a very good job of making sure that they actually provide education to their students, but rather simply award as much money as possible. The problem is that many of the students taking the educational class will not be able to actually pay for it. If you think about it, would you take a course for an affordable price just because it was an affordable price? Of course you wouldn’t!

This situation is not as outrageous as it may seem.

There are too many people out there who are not able to get a college education because they are incapable of paying for the class cost. It is ridiculous for someone to go into debt just to obtain a college diploma, but it is totally acceptable for someone else to do so, as well as someone else to receive a free meal or to receive a tax write off. This is why I urge everyone, especially single mothers, to look into getting free government financial aid for college because there are plenty of it available.
